As far as we’re concerned, lube is one of the most underrated accoutrements in the intimacy tool kit. If you’re viewing these little bottles just as sexual aids, and not as experiences unto themselves, you may be selling the humble lube short!
Lubricants today come in a dizzying array of scents, sensations, and textures. And while they deserve all the props they get for addressing dryness during sex or masturbation, it’s time we also start celebrating lubes for how they can elevate the experience of toys, dildos, and even anal play!
Here are some tips on how to find a lube you like and make the most of this handy bottle:
1. Know your ingredients. Lubricants can be water-, silicone-, or oil-based; some are even a mix. For the most part, you can let yourself be guided by what feels good. Just remember that silicone lubricants generally don’t play well with silicone toys (because of silicone’s bonding nature), while water-based products are usually a safe bet.
2. Start small, sample a few. Buy some samples and then start with patch tests to make sure you like a lube’s scent and texture. Don’t hesitate to seek out recommendations -- online reviews and salespeople at upscale toy shops can be great sources of information.
3. Keep it close. Nothing ruins the mood like having to dart into the bathroom at the wrong moment, so keep your lube within reach. (You may even want to stash a few choices so you’re ready for whatever mood strikes!)
4. Experiment...and have fun! While the extensive array of choices may feel overwhelming (especially if you add edible flavors and temperature sensations to the mix!), that’s part of the fun of lube.
Darn. Guess you’ll have to play more so you can try them all out....
